Krabi

Krabi, with its beautiful beaches and unspoiled islands, is one of the most famous tourist destinations in Thailand.

Krabi Hotels

The province of Krabi is located in the west coast of southern Thailand facing the Andaman Sea, approximately 800 km (500 mi) south of Bangkok. Many of the attractions in the Krabi area are natural ones. There are fantastic beaches backed by towering limestone peaks, lovely tropical islands scattered along the coast and colourful coral reefs for diving adventures. One of the most pleasurable things to do in Krabi is to hop on a boat and set off on a cruise around the many islands of the Andaman Sea. Among the most famous of these islands are the Phi Phi Islands, world famous for its coral formations and spectacular beaches and ideal for snorkeling and scuba diving. The ferry from Krabi Town to Phi Phi Islands takes about 90 minutes, and runs twice daily.

Ao Nang Beach is Krabi's main resort area, comprising a long stretch of beach, half of which has a backdrop of steep limestone cliffs and the other half lined with resorts and tourist amenities along the beachfront road. Ao Nang is the tourist center in the Krabi province, with the highest concentration of hotels, resorts, restaurants and shopping, but it is not yet overcrowded like Phuket or some of the other tourist destinations in Thailand sometimes are.

Railay Beach is considered one of the most spectacular of all the Andaman coastal locations. This idyllic spot is a peninsula that can only be reached by boat from Ao Nang, as it is separated from mainland by sheer limestone cliffs. It only takes a few minutes by boat from Ao Nang to Railay Beach. A few resorts are situated between the two crescent-shaped beaches. In all, there are a number of beautiful beaches to choose from, but Phra Nang attracts most of the day-trippers as it features an ancient shrine inside a cave.

Krabi Town is the small provincial capital and provides a glimpse into real Thai life. The town has largely escaped commercial tourism due to its lack of a beach, but it is an interesting place to visit, having colourful markets, a pleasant walking path that follows the estuary mouth and lots of restaurants offering local favourites, with seafood being a specialty. Krabi Town is about 20 minutes drive by bus from Ao Nang. Krabi Airport that service the whole province is located about 7 km (4 mi) from the city center of Krabi Town. It has many daily flights to Bangkok as well as flights to other destinations in Thailand and also some international flights.
