Pangkor

Pangkor is famous for its beaches and a mix of low budget to 5 star hotels, some of them with excellent golf courses on their property.

Pangkor Island Hotels

Pangkor is an island off the coast of north-west peninsular Malaysia. It has a land area of only 8 sq km, and a population of approximately 25,000 islanders. It is a popular local resort and can get very crowded at weekends and on public holidays, however the beaches are almost empty during the week. It has some of the west coast's prettiest and most tranquil beaches, authentic Malaysian fishing villages that have changed little in 50 years, and some great local food, especially seafood.

Pangkor, with its charming mix of fishing settlements and resorts, is a fascinating and convenient holiday destination. The beaches have clear water and almost white sand. Pasir Bogak was the first developed beach and is the largest and most popular beach on the island. It is fine for swimming, but gets crowded during holidays. The water is shallow and crystal clear, and there are facilities for boating, fishing, snorkeling, scuba diving and kayaking. Coral Bay on the north-west coast have clear emerald-green water due to the presence of limestone. Teluk Nipah offers activities like scuba diving, snorkeling windsurfing and fishing. These two beaches are very popular with travelers from Europe. Teluk Ketapang or Turtle Bay still receives turtles on their egg-laying pilgrimages.

Pangkor is a 40 minutes ferry ride from the coastal town Lumit, situated 7 km across the Straits of Malacca. Lumit is a 3 hours drive from Kuala Lumpur. There are also scheduled flights via Kuala Lumpur operated by Berjaya Air. This flight is 5 times a week except Thuesday and Thursday.
